Hi.

I need to put together a short training session on the main principles of Data Protection, which doesn't sound like it will be that exciting, so has anyone else run these and what have you included to make it a bit more fun and lively ?

Thanks

Jon I have used the DVD called 'The Lights are on'. I then ask the delegates to list the principles that are covered in the DVD. It's quite fun as they have often come up with more than the 8 principles - I list everything they say which is also quite fun. I then reveal the actual 8 and give company specific examples. Malc

I have run this many times for our organisation and there are video clips you can use from the ICO that are good to suppport the training. I will challange the myths that people have and look at the facts and also share some of the recent cases that have come to light as many are often with big well know organisations or companies so even they can get it wrong. Often its more about the behaviour of individuals and understanding that all have a responisbilty to to ensure data is looked after and kept safe, and why its not just the responsiblity of the manager or the senior management teams. I have slides that I am happy to share if you wnat them - just advise

When I have done this in the past I have researched examples of business ( and actually a lot are in the public sector) of the worst Data Protection breaches and ask them to identify what they did wrong and what could have prevented it. People usually find it amusing how "uncareful" some people are! Hope that helps
