Hi Andrew Similar to what Jane is suggesting, split the group into 6 and allocate a leadership style to each giving them the overview description, then each style feedbacks about what behaviours a leader demonstrating this style would show, what are the benefits and drawbacks of the style, impact on others long and short term and examples of where they have seen or experienced this style.
After this gweet people to move to the stlye they are most comfortable with and the one they would be least comfortable using, asking questions of each group before moving. Dependant on time you could also get them to move to the style they most like being led by and least like being led by.
Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew I'm not familiar with the Hay McBer, though a google search suggests it's linked to the daniel goleman 6 leadership styles and EI research. Some thoughts that I might try time depending would be to do a forum theatre piece whereby you and a colleage play out a scenario of a leadership style - they need to identify and then modify the leader's behaviour. You could do smaller skits whereby you play out the 6 styles. You could divide up the floor with the 6 styles using masking tape and ask people to stand in each slot and describe the leadership behaviours - then move to their least preferred and identify two behaviours that they could try out on an action plan. Write some case studies where there is a mismatch in style for the scenario and to discuss in pairs and share learnings in plenary? Hopefully that offers some inspiration. Good luck, Jane |
