Working in China

Hi all,

Our company(professional services), is taking the first tentative steps to expand into the China market and I am keen that we provide our staff with the background knowledge to do this; I have some useful online and written resources, but was hoping to source someone to spend some time with two of our Director team (who are going to China shortly) discussing the nuances and subtleties of working in China. Does anyone have any recommendations or is able to volunteer their services?

Many thanks

Rosie

Hi, Rosie, I think Regina's advice is more practical and useful than what I was toying with, so I'll gracefully bow out of the discussion now.
Good luck with the quest.

Many thanks Regina, I've never heard of the British Council but they look like an excellent resource!

In my previous job, I had a lot of dealings with the British Council who support links with China (mostly educational links but also, to a lesser extent, businesses who want to set up links out there). They have charity status so you could contact them and ask them either to visit or perhaps do a video conference (that's what I did) and they talked us through etiquette/things to avoid etc. The people I dealt with were Katie Blunden and Dominic Regester (email addresses:[email protected] [email protected]) If they are no longer there, ring General Enquiries on 0161 957 7755 and ask for the China desk.
