Hi all, I have been invited to take a stand at an Expo and as this is my first one I'd be really grateful for your experience/suggestions in making this stand out from the crowd. As I'm a trainer and coach I am going to have my leaflets/business cards and also as an author I'll have my books on display. My budget is limited and would like to include some visuals, perhaps motivational quotes. I'd be really interested in hearing what others have used - is it worth offering an exhibition discount? Thank you in advance. Sera

Hi Sarah,

Exhibitions can be tricky affairs and it's always best to approach them with the attitude that it's raising your profile, even if you don't immediately see a return on your investment.

To be successful, it really is important to stand out from the crowd but that's not so much about gimmicks and giveaways as about making it clear to passers by what you're offering that's different. Remember, there are those who just visit the exhibition to see what freebies they can collect so it's important that anything you give away has a strong brand link and is really only going to be of interest to decision makers. I think having your book is a great starting point and perhaps you could offer a free copy of this in return for a business card/contact details from key decision makers. Or enter everyone who gives you their contact details in a draw for a copy?

Think about what you can do that is different to other trainers. Do you perhaps have a particular area of specialism you can focus on? Something non-standard? In a field full of green trees, it really helps if you're a bright red holly bush. :-)

We had great success at this year's Learning and Skills. I think that's down to our uniqueness. But we also used our visuals (in particular we had our game packs out on display) to great effect. Having them out on a table spiked the curiosity of those passing and drew people in to our stand. We also had a big screen demonstration (and the ability to do live demos). And that was essentially it.

The final thing I'd say is that there's no need to spend a huge sum of money on your stand. Often you see the most elaborate stands with very few visitors - simply because, whilst it's smart, it doesn't make clear what the company is offering or how what they're offering is different.

And the very final thing I'd say is good luck and enjoy. :-)

Thanks Zoe - I had been looking at the posters and word clouds over the last couple of days and there are some I will defiantly use. Sera

Hi Sarah,
As you have Glasstap Gold membership you can use our Quotation posters from Trainers' Images, https://www.glasstap.com/user_area/trainersimages/horizontal-auto.aspx?format_id=5. They would brighten your stand up and are eye catching and thought provoking too.
Hope this helps!
Zoe
