Ask them what each means and what they think the purposes of each are - I assume that these are experienced adult workers. Give them a few examples to compare and contrast - choose a couple from sectors other than your own first and them some from your competitors in your sector. Explain the difference between superordinate goals and concrete goals, the trick being to bring the two types of goals together. Ask which has greater emotional appeal. 'Go live' 9show on screen what you are looking at) on Youtube and pick a few slick adverts to demonstrate how emotions are used to get us to buy things rather than logic. Perhaps also bring in a short discussion on the role of narratives. |
