Question Detail

Trust at Peer Level

The question was posted by Hannelie on 27/11/2014 11:38:39

I'm due to design and run a training session to a group of mid-level leaders, mainly focussing on stress and delegation, but also looking at trust (and cooperation) at peer level. Does anyone have anything - I'm very keen on an activity of sorts - they are able to share on the topic of 'Peer Trust'? I have ample time on the day, but only a fortnight to design and prep.
Please and thank you!

Hi Hannelie,

I wonder whether Glasstap Sheep Trials might be a fun way to get peers thinking about trust and co-operatiion. Especially if you use the blindfolds!

Hello Hannelie, You'll find The Department Game under Team Building Games in Trainers' Library. Alternatively, enter 'department game' into the search at the top of the Glasstap website.

Thanks

Thank you Jo and Karon - I'll explore both these options - sound like just want I need.
Karon, do you perhaps have a link/reference for the Department Game?

Hi, take a look at The Department Game. I ran it for my team who all work remotely but do the same job. The first time we ran it, they were all collecting for their own gain. Of course most crashed and burned. We ran it again after we debriefed the session on how let down they felt with others who were working for themselves, how they could have shared and discussed needs. It also gave them an opportunity to discuss observations of each other in a safe way. We had great success. They really worked well they trusted and supported each other after in a very different way.

Hi Hannelie, Have you thought about running 'The Prisoners Dilemma' game with the group? (There are various versions around, also called 'X and Y game' or 'Red Blue game'). It's designed to show the benefits of a win-win approach to negotiating, but also works just as well with individuals who don't co-operate or trust each other as, in the end, everyone looses. It is quite strong stuff, especially if you have some strong personalities, so does need careful handling. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss further.
