This is my assignment for the E-Learning and Digital Cultures MOOC from the University of Edinburgh. I think I would have done this even if it wasn’t an assignment. Just wanted to talk about being human in a digital world.
To mE, this means: - Looking for a recipe online instead of a cookbook, but still cook>
- Checking emails and E-reading, but still find time to polish my nails
- Being able to take a course at the University of Edinburgh from my desktop in Bucharest – see image
- Learning online, and still treasure handcrafts made by my kids – see image
- Learning about e-learning in a MOOC, but still feeling the need to note things down and highlight stuff in my “MOOC book” (future word for “practice book” maybe?).
- Typing this on my blackberry, the evening before the deadline , while waiting in at the dentist.
Had anyone told me, 15 years ago, this would happen to me some day, I would have said it was science fiction. I realise it’s nothing out of the ordinary today and I realise whatever may now seem Sci-fi to us is most likely going to happen soon enough for us to realise it’s not.
To me this is just like with pretty much anything else, really. It all depends on what we decide to do, use the digital around us or abuse it.
I will use it.
And as, to me, learning is a very important part of living, here’s what I think I’ll do: - I am a MOOC fan and will surely continue joining open courses, maybe even creating some and embracing other new, more fancy technologies.
- I will always treasure the possibility of attending face-to-face courses, if not for anything else, at least for the smiling and frowning and for being able to share emotions and laughter without having to say anything, just by sharing the room with others.
It’s the “me” that will always make the difference in “mE-learning”. |
