Background
I worked for over 25 years in the charity/social care sector in a range of training, L&D management & senior management roles, most recently as Head of L&D for a large national charity.

In 2008 I made a few key decisions:
1) I wanted to run my own company and be in charge of my own destiny.
2) I wanted to do what I was passionate about - helping people to learn, develop and grow in a fun, creative way.
3) I wanted more time for all the music projects I was involved in.

Therefore in 2009, Saltbox was born and the rest, as they say, is history!





Expertise
I specialise mainly in management and leadership skills (Saltbox is an ILM approved provider), stress management and staff wellbeing, interpersonal and communication skills, presentation and public speaking skills, team development, and creative thinking.

I also use a wonderful profiling tool called TetraMap, which uses nature as a metaphor for understanding different working, behaviour and communication styles. It's simple but powerful, is vey intuitive, and is visual and three dimensional too.

I also organise and facilitate team development days/awaydays and staff conferences.

I'm a member of the CIPD, ILM and Stress Management Society, hold both ILM and CIPD qualifications, and am a qualified Master TetraMap Facilitor.

Some of my clients include First Group PLC, the BBC, The Soil Association, Devon County Council, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, The Red Cross, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, The YMCA, Westcountry Housing, CURO Housing, and CLIC Sargent.





My beliefs and values
I believe that we all perform best when our mind is free, our body relaxed, and our creative potential unlocked, and this belief underpins all my work, along with the following beliefs:

- Our wellbeing is fundamental to our performance
- When we feel positive and valued we are motivated to achieve our own or our company's aims
- We all learn and grow from new ideas and experiences
- We are all creative and inventive but may need help to unearth these qualities
- We all learn most when training is fun, colourful, lively and participative

I use accelerated learning principles, creative techniques, and a hands-on approach, and make sure the training is lively, fun and colourful so that people participate more, learn better and are inspired to put their learning into practice.

I plan and deliver training using a range of methods to appeal to different learning styles and to maximise learning including:

- Games and other interactive exercises to highlight the point or help people see the issue differently
- Explanations and discussion of the relevant theoretical models, research or legislation which underpin the learning
- Practical tasks giving people opportunities to practice the skills learnt in a safe environment and receive constructive feedback
- The opportunity to reflect on the learning and how they will apply it in the workplace

Most importantly, I aim to make sure people come away from my events feeling positive about themselves and what they can achieve.
